In Desperate Need of A Spiritual Awakening“ And knowing the time , that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. – The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.” (Romans 13: 11-12)
In the Epistle of II Timothy the Apostle Paul warned the church that it would face a time of great spiritual peril; a time wherein the darkest forms of sinful and wicked behavior would engulf much of the world and contaminate much of the body of Christ. Paul spoke of a time wherein corruption, moral degradation and the most unimaginable wicked practices would become the norm of society; he defined this era as perilous times. The prophetic predictions of this great Apostle are fully manifesting in this present time, for the hearts of men have grown more rebellious to the Divine laws and teachings of Almighty God. We are experiencing a culture that has redefined and reclassified sin, much of which God defined as evil is now promoted as good; and that which God defined as good is now being touted as evil. Behaviors in which the Holy Scriptures teach to be sinful and offensive to the Holy nature of God are now promoted and endorsed by not only society but by many sectors of the Christian Church.
We are also witnessing the dire effects that greed has taken on our nation; our fragile economy is teetering on the brink of collapse because of bad business deals that were motivated by corporate leaders and politicians with hearts full of greed. Greed (Covetousness) is not only ruining the business world, it has spread into the church and corrupted its spiritual leadership. We are experiencing the same levels of spiritual perversion spoken of by the prophet Micah, who stated “the heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money…” (Micah 3:11) – The church of our Lord Jesus Christ has been turned into a business enterprise rather than a house of prayer; we have replaced the seeking of God’s face through fervent prayer and soul stirring preaching with gimmicks and many other forms of entertainment that tickle the ears, excite the emotions but leaves the our hearts unchanged and our lives un-surrendered to the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Sadly much of our spiritual leadership today is motivated by money (filthy lucre); we are more interested in receiving hefty paydays, living like movie stars and entertainers than we are in seeing lost souls snatched from the brink of destruction and delivered from satanic bondage.
In lieu of this dark hour that threatened to undermine the mission and integrity of the Church of Jesus Christ, the Apostle Paul charges every true believer to wake up out of our spiritual sleep (slumbering ways). The days ahead are crucial to the church fulfilling its purpose in the earth as we eagerly await the appearance of our Savior; let us therefore arise and cast off the works of darkness, carnality and moral corruption and put back on the armor of light (righteousness). We must revive the old foundations of fervent prayer, uncompromised preaching, sincere worship and godly living so that the power of God is manifested fully amongst His church, saving and delivering many souls from the grip of darkness and destruction.
